Verdict.
Ford faced a dilemma when
designing the new Transit. Throw the old Transit design in the bin and
start with a clean sheet or improve the one you have, they ended up
doing a bit of both . A new 2.2 engine now graces the front wheel drive
vans and all diesel engines are common rail and meet the new Euro 4
emission standards. The front of the van now boasts a bigger grille and
with the new light clusters the van takes on a more aggressive look. It
is the interior that impressed me the most though, the dash has been
completely redesigned, it is more car like and easier to view and use.
The gear stick is now dash mounted which may upset traditional transit
buyers but to be fair to Ford they have made an excellent job of it. Not
having the floor mounted shift means more room in the cab for driver and
passengers and the seats and more comfy too. Well done Ford the Transit
just got even better!
